DRESSING FOR COURT
-
When you are required to attend court you need to dress appropriately. Appropriate means conservative and not flashy or otherwise distracting. You must tuck in your shirt. For men, long pants are required. A shirt with a collar and proper footwear (not sandals) should also be worn. Excessive jewelry should not be worn and tattoos should be covered by your clothing.
Ladies should wear modest or conservative clothing to court. If you would not wear an outfit to church, do not wear it to court.
Pre-Trial Intervention
Many individuals are cited for minor crimes every day. Often a law enforcement officer will issue a Notice to Appear rather than actually arrest people charged with misdemeanors. Underage drinking, disorderly conduct and trespassing are examples of misdemeanors that are likely to be treated in this manner.
If you are a first time offender, it is highly likely that you will be offered pre-trial intervention or diversion. You will be given a notice of your court date through the mail. Make sure you attend this court date if you have not retained an attorney to represent you. At the first court date, you will be informed if you have qualified for the diversion program.
